Honestly, I would avoid the AMD processors. Valatorin had TREMENDOUS problems getting 40-boxes going on what should have been a breezy walk-in-the-park setup for 40-boxes. In the end, he tried windows 10,7,linux, he tried a third party app to manage threads, he disabled multithreading, and finally, he got it kinda working.
But he is still not happy with the performance, and is looking to sell his 1800, and just switch to an Intel CPU. I think the 8700 is a brilliant choice, but you will be stuck with windows 10. Be forewarned. Most of us like win7 still, as it is very lightweight. (most of the world, too). However, I have run my full setup on windows 10, and it runs no-less-fast than win7, as far as my limited testing demonstrated.
The 8700 has 6 cores and 12 threads which will allow you to come close to running 40-boxes anytime you want, maybe not great while streaming. I think you'll need more threads for that. Buy the most threads you can get for your money, whether it's 7th gen or 8th gen, makes little difference, I think, but if given a choice for the two, pick 8th gen. I may be getting my 36 thread i9 soon...
